Congress has no concern for people: Shettar

October 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Instead of solving the problems of farmers and the common man, Congress leaders in the State are busy issuing statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to please the party high command, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said that hundreds of farmers in the State have committed suicide owing to heavy loss, but the Chief Minister visited the families of the deceased farmers only after senior leader of the party S.M. Krishna visited their families in Mandya. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the former Chief Minister H.D. Deve Gowda had opposed the Mahadayi project citing technical reasons, but now Mr. Gowda is supporting the agitation to gain sympathy of people. These leaders have no real concern for the welfare of the people, he said.

The Union government had released a total of Rs. 363 crore for taking up drought relief works in the State, of which the government has spent only Rs. 100 crore. However, the Congress leaders are trying to misguide the people by issuing statements that the Union government has not released funds for drought relief works, he said.

The Upper Bhadra Project was launched during the BJP government’s rule in the State. However, the Congress government has failed to complete the project, he said.
