Scores of college students took part in a Heritage Walk organised by the Dharwad Circle of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at a protected monument, Siddeshwar Temple, in Haveri on Thursday.
In the programme organised as part of the Heritage Week being conducted from November 19 to 25, students formed human chain on the premises of the Siddeshwar Temple before proceeding going for the walk.
Led by their principals and teachers of Shivalingeshwar and Rachoteshwar Independent PU Colleges, respectively, S.V. Hiremath and S.B. Annigeri, students covered M.G. Road, Yalakki Oni, Akkipet and M.G. Road before returning to the temple.
Throughout the walk, the students raised slogans on the significance of protecting historical monuments and highlighted the role of citizens in preserving such monuments.
Officials of ASI G. Kamaraj, Devaraj S.M., H. Ravindra, Deepak Kumar and other staff participated and coordinated the event. They threw light on why it was important to protect historical monuments.
On the temple premises, a quiz contest on the protection of monuments, historical monuments in the State and history was as held part of the Heritage Week.
