BJP leader and MLC V. Somanna has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to immediately call an all-party meeting for resolving the issue of site selection for establishing the Indian Institute of Technology. He was addressing media persons here on Friday.

He blamed the State government for creating a confusion in the matter by proposing more than one name for the premier institute.

“The State Cabinet had, in 2012, taken a decision to recommend Raichur for the IIT. Based on this decision, the Siddaramaiah government should have proposed only Raichur for the institute. It proposed three names creating confusion and fight between regions within the State,” he said.

“Mr. Siddaramaiah should take the initiative to correct this mistake by calling an all-party meeting to arrive at a consensus,” Mr. Somanna added.

Mr. Somanna also said that he would convince Jagadish Shettar, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, to write to the Chief Minister urging him to call an all-party meeting.

Mr. Somanna said that a delegation from the BJP State unit would soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek special financial aid to the State for taking up drought relief.

The State government has declared 138 taluks drought-hit. But, it has not taken up any drought relief work in any taluk.

It has completely failed to handle the situation.

The State BJP delegation would soon approach the Union government seeking funds for the purpose, Mr. Somanna said.

BJP leaders Basan Gowda Byagwatt, R. Timmayya and Narasappa Eklaspur were present.
