Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in front of the Town Hall, here on Sunday.

Reckoned to be unique as it is made of marble, it is enclosed within a huge dome and the architectural style and design resembles the Chamaraja Circle adjacent to the palace that is close by.

A release stated that this is the first marble statue of Dr. Ambedkar in the country and cost around ₹5.85 crore. The raw material was procured from Rajasthan. The marble slabs weighed around 35 tons in their raw format and after chiselling and sculpting, the statue weight has been pegged at 9 tons, according to sculptor Arun Yogiraj.

The statue, including the pedestal, has a height of 15 ft. Mr. Yogiraj was assisted by seven other artisans.

The CM also released a special cover issued by the Department of Posts to mark the occasion. Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Law T.B. Jayachandra and others were present.
