CID begins probe into PU paper leak

March 25, 2012 09:34 am | Updated 09:34 am IST - Bangalore:

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State Police, which is probing the leak of II pre-university question papers, on Saturday sent its personnel to places where the papers were reportedly leaked.

On Saturday, Director-General of Police (DGP), CID, Rupak Kumar Dutta, Additional DGP N.S. Megharik and other officials visited the office of the Department of Pre-University Education in Malleswaram here and held discussions with department Director Rashmi V. Mahesh and other officials concerned.

Four teams

Sources in the CID told The Hindu that four teams had been formed and one each had been sent to Tarikere in Chikmagalur district and Chintamani in Kolar district. The CID is also using a team from its Cyber Crime Cell to investigate whether the leaks could have happened during the preparation of question papers.

This team will also investigate whether papers were transmitted through email by those who leaked the papers. Another team is being kept as a standby at the CID headquarters.

Sources said Mr. Dutta would supervise the investigation.

Asked whether the CID had got any definite leads, sources said, “We are not in a hurry to arrive at any conclusion as the investigation is aimed at strengthening the examination machinery. Moreover, we cannot disturb the department officials too often as they are conducting fresh exams. But, we will definitely nail the culprits and point out the loopholes.”

Sources, who are privy to the working of the examination system in the Pre-University Education Department, suspected that the leaks must have taken place at the treasury level.

Officials at that level must have colluded with those in the racket to leak the papers, sources said.
