Chitradurga records 85.72% voting

Chitradurga recorded a total of 85.72 per cent polling in the Gram Panchayat elections held on June 2 for 3,092 seats of 186 Gram Panchayats.

There were a total of 9,61,780 voters in these 186 Gram Panchayats in which 4,89,772 were male and 4,72,008 were female voters. Of these total voters 8,24,454 voters have exercised their franchise.

Detailing about the voters in different taluks of the district, Deputy Commissioner Srirangaiah stated that there were 84,933 voters in Molkalmuru taluk in which 72,512 voters have exercised their franchise recording 85.38 per cent polling. In Challakere there were 2,15,441 voters in which 1,87,874 voters have exercised their franchise recording 87.20 per cent polling.

In Chitradurga there were a total of 1,98,171 voters in which 1,70,373 have voted recording 85.97 per cent polling, in Hiriyur there were a total of 1,75,580 voters in which 1,45,480 have voted recording 82.86 per cent voting. In Hosadurga taluk there were 1,43,679 voters in which 1,22,044 voters have exercised their franchise recording 84.94 per cent polling and in Holalkere taluk there were 1,43,976 voters in which 1,26, 171 have exercised their franchise recording a total of 87.63 per cent voting, he added.

The counting would be held at concerned taluk headquarters on June 5 from 8 a.m. and ample security has been provided to avoid any untoward incident during the counting of votes, he added.
