Amid political crisis, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is learnt to have said on Sunday that he was even willing to step down to make way for any Congress leader to occupy the post if that helps save the coalition government by bringing back the rebel MLAs. However, such a move is learnt to have not gone well with a majority of the JD(S) MLAs who opposed it tooth and nail.
According to sources, the Chief Minister made such a suggestion when the coalition leaders were considering various options to bringing back rebel MLAs from Mumbai. But more than 25 MLAs from the JD(S) are said to be averse to such a proposal as they think their legislature party leader would also change if such a suggestion was considered.
According to them, only Mr. Kumaraswamy could protect their political interests in the present scenario of coalition politics.
Most of such MLAs from the JD(S) are said to be those who are hardcore followers of Mr. Kumaraswamy.
Sources said Mr. Kumaraswamy did not suggest names of any particular Congress leaders when he said he was even willing to give up the post.
