A monitoring committee has been constituted to oversee the content put on air by cable television networks in Mysuru district. The committee, headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, will oversee whether cable TV networks were complying with the provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.

The Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations will be member secretary of the committee.

Sumana M.S. of Samatha Study Centre; K. Saraswathi, Director, Rural Literacy and Health Programme; Vasudeva Murthy, chairman, Mahajana Educational Institutions, Mysuru; retired sociology professor R. Indira, and Venkatesan, head of clinical psychology, All-India Institute of Speech and Hearing, were appointed as panel members.

Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha said here recently that the public can lodge complaints against content on cable television at the office of Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations on Dhanwantri Road here.

The Deputy Commissioner said the heads of cable TV networks had been asked to submit their details in a prescribed format available at the office of Information and Public Relations on Dhanwantri Road here before December 30. The designated officers can prohibit content from being aired if it against any religion or caste or violates the advertisement code, the release added.

Importantly, the designated officers had also been empowered to seize the equipment used to transmit the programmes if the concerned cable TV network failed to comply with the provisions after warnings, the release stated.
