The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to form 28 new municipalities and 66 grama panchayats and upgrade Kannur municipality as a municipal Corporation.
Objections
The proposal will be notified inviting objections and suggestions to be submitted within 15 days.
After considering them, the final notification will be issued, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting.
With the formation of the new local bodies, the total number of municipal corporations will go up to six and municipalities and panchayats to 87 and 1,011 respectively.
