Bopanna recommended as CJ of Gauhati HC

The Supreme Court collegium has recommended that Justice A.S. Bopanna, a senior puisne judge of the Karnataka High Court, be appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

“The collegium while considering his [Justice Bopanna] name has also considered the names of Justice H.G. Ramesh and Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh, who also hail from Karnataka High Court and are senior to Mr. Justice Bopanna. Having regard to all relevant factors, the collegium unanimously finds Justice A.S. Bopanna suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. The collegium resolves to recommend accordingly,” said the resolution passed by the collegium comprising Chief Justice of India and two senior most judges of the apex court.

Born on May 20, 1959, Justice Bopanna enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised law in various courts in the State. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 6, 2006, and made a permanent judge on March 1, 2007.
