Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the groundwork for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by addressing rallies in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, but Bharatiya Janata Party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa will start his tour of Karnataka only after July 27. The reason: he wants to begin only after the “inauspicious” lunar eclipse on that day.
“Many reputed astrologers have said that the forthcoming Chandra Grahana (lunar eclipse) is very inauspicious. Considering this, I have decided to commence my Statewide tour to create awareness among the people on the failures of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government and the achievements of the BJP-led Union government after the conclusion of this celestial event,” Mr. Yeddyurappa said at a meeting of BJP workers in Shivamogga, his home town, on Wednesday.
He even called upon party workers to commence groundwork for the general elections after the conclusion of the eclipse. He said the forthcoming Chandra Grahana would be the longest total lunar eclipse of this century, and went into the details about what made it particularly inauspicious.
“The Statewide tour would have commenced much earlier, but astrologers have cautioned that new ventures should be launched after the conclusion of the Chandra Grahana,” he said.
He said he did not want to “take chances” considering the significance of the elections. “It is possible to ward off the ill-effects of the Chandra Grahana by praying to the Almighty,” he said, urging his party workers to pray.
