The confusion on whether the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) or the Mysore City Corporation should take over the drinking water supply in Mysuru has led to water crisis causing much inconvenience to the residents, according to the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM).
A delegation of ACICM, led by its convener M. Lakshmana, on Tuesday met Mayor R. Lingappa and apprised him about the problem faced by residents since many days.
Mr. Lakshmana suggested that neither the MCC nor the KUWSDB should take up the responsibility and an independent board be constituted to supply drinking water, on the lines of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. “The confusion over who should take over the task after JUSCO has led to artificial scarcity of drinking water,” Mr. Lakshmana said.
While a section of MCC councillors had demanded that the job of water distribution be given to the MCC, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had recently announced that the KUWSDB was ideal to take up the responsibility. The Chief Minister’s announced had triggered a debate.
With no agency at the helm to be held accountable, the distribution system has gone haywire with several localities not getting water for many days. With the officials blaming conked out pumps, the uncertainty is causing untold miseries to residents.
