H.D. Revanna, MLA and leader of the Janata Dal (Secular), said on Monday that leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party should put pressure on the Union government to waive farm loans taken from nationalised banks, instead of taking out the Raita Chaitanya Yatra in the State.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Revanna said “Pralhad Joshi and his men have been travelling to all parts of the State. But, where was the need to do that, when their party is in power only at the Centre? They should have made the Centre waive farm loans and got adequate funds released for taking up drought relief work,” he said.
Although a Central team inspected the drought-affected areas in the State recently, Union government was yet to release funds. “The Union government might be waiting for BJP leaders to submit a report after completing their Raita Chaitanya Yatra”, he quipped.
Regarding the Kalasa-Banduri issue, Mr. Revanna alleged that the BJP was politicising it.
“If at all the BJP leaders had any concern for the problems of people and were desirous of meeting the demand for drinking water, then they should have convinced the BJP government at the Centre on resolving the issue,” he said.
