Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Raita Chaitanya Yatre’ was nothing but an exercise to cover up Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mistakes when the all-party delegation from Karnataka went to meet him on the Mahadayi river issue, said Vedavyas Koulagi, spokesman of the Hubballi-Dharwad unit of Congress.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Koulagi said that when the all-party delegation from Karnataka met Mr. Modi, he failed to act like the Prime Minister of the country and behaved like a BJP leader and played politics.
And when his act boomeranged in Karnataka, with farmers agitating over the Kalasa Banduri issue venting their anger against Mr. Modi, the BJP leaders in Karnataka launched the Raita Chaitanya Yatre to save their face, he said.
Mr. Koulagi said that the BJP leaders were shedding crocodile tears at the yatre and were using the platform to criticise Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for political mileage. “If BJP leaders are really concerned about the farmers’ plight, they should get the Prime Minister to waive off the loans of farmers in all the nationalised banks,” he said.
To a query, he said that Mr. Siddaramaiah would complete his term as Chief Minister. A few leaders within the Congress who had lost the support of the people were trying to create confusion through various means, he said.
