BJP, Congress workers take out separate rallies

Congress and BJP workers took to the streets accusing and defending their respective leaders here on Wednesday.

The Congress workers alleged that the BJP’s MLA Sanjay B. Patil from Belagavi Rural Assembly Constituency had threatened zilla panchayat member Ramesh Parashuram Goral (Halga) of dire consequence.

They demanded suitable action against him Mr. Patil, while the BJP workers demanded Mr. Goral’s disqualification as a zilla panchayat member.

The Congress workers led by District Congress Committee (Rural) and State president of Mahila Congress Laxmi R. Hebbalkar burnt the effigy of Mr. Patil at Rani Channamma Circle and submitted a memorandum signed by Mr. Goral to the Police Commissioner.

Mr. Goral alleged that Mr. Patil had threatened him when he alleged discrimination in selection of beneficiaries under Basava Housing Scheme during a meeting held at Belagavi Taluk Panchayat Office on Monday.

He urged the Police Commissioner to provide him with protection and also investigate the claims of Mr. Patil’s criminal past.

BJP workers led by Belagavi Rural president Gangadhar Ghasari alleged Mr.Goral of misbehaviour and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding that Mr. Goral be disqualified from the zilla panchayat.
