The membership drive launched recently by the Bharatiya Janata Party has helped the party put up a good performance in the gram panchayat elections in the district, member of the Rajya Sabha Ayanur Manjunath has said.

Mr. Manjunath was speaking after inaugurating a workshop for party workers on ‘Maha Sampark Abhiyan,’ the mass contact programme launched by the party here on Monday.

In Shivamogga district, more than 3 lakh new members had been enrolled. The membership drive had yielded good results in the gram panchayat elections. Out of the 263 gram panchayats that went for polls in the district, the BJP workers would come to power in 139. The party would achieve similar success in the forthcoming elections for the Legislative Council from local bodies’ constituency, for zilla and taluk panchayats, he said. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had evoked good response. As promised in the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led government at the Centre had succeeded in taming the inflation. The newly enlisted members of the party should be trained in apprising the people

of the achievements of the Union government, he said.

Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa; M.B. Bhanuprakash, MLC; and president of the party’s district unit S. Dattatri were present.
