Bidar-born professor's book on cloud computing a hit in China

Bidar too has become a part of the limelight surrounding the strengthening of India-China relations as the book by a Bidar-born professor of computer science from Australia is making waves in China.

Rajkumar Buyya, who heads the Cloud Computing Lab at Melbourne University, has co-authored a book ‘Mastering Cloud Computing-Foundations and Applications Programming’, which has been translated and published in Chinese by China Machine Press. The book has received good reviews.

Mr. Buyya is currently in China attending seminars and helping students of various institutions in the emerging field.

The book has been authored by Prof. Buyya along with Christian Vecchiola, a colleague at Melbourne University and S. Thamarai Selvi, Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai.

The young engineer from Koutha village in Aurad taluk, studied in Mysuru an Bengaluru before working on the PARAM super-computer project of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.

He later left for Australia where he began research and teaching in the University of Melbourne in 2002. He also serves as the Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory in Melbourne. When the University nudged him to start a software company to commercialise its innovations, he named it Manjra Soft, on the river Manjra in his village. Its products are used in over 40 countries now. Governments of China and Mangolia have used his tools to develop high-speed trains and strengthen markets. ISRO has used them to process satellite images.

The globe-trotting professor is regarded among the pioneers of cloud-computing. His books on the subject are popular across continents. He is part of the Melbourne-Chindia Cloud Computing (MC3) Research Network. He has collaborated with researchers in China, England and USA.
