Members of various Bhajan singing troupes, who had come from across the district under the banner of Samudaya Samskrutika Sanghatane, swarmed the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday to press for their demands.

The troupes, singing bhajans, marched from the Narayan Rao Park to the DC’s office resulting in traffic snarls for over an hour as the main gate of the DC’s compound, for entry and exit, was blocked.

Considering bhajan singers as artistes and giving them identity cards, pension for singers above 40 years of age, providing free musical instruments to all the troupes, allotment of sites/houses to every member, cultivable lands to landless, construction of a hall in every ward for rendering bhajans, registration of troupes in Department of Kannada and Culture, imparting training to young singers, giving them an opportunity to perform in various utsavs, including Hampi Utsav, were among the demands put forth.
