The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has opposed the permission given to the Bengaluru Turf Club to open a horse racing betting centre here.

NFIW activists led by State secretary Pramoda Hazare staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here and demanded that the government withdraw the permission. The organisation said that the opening of the centre would only promote gambling in disguise and lure people to financial ruin.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through the office of the Deputy Commissioner, NFIW activists threatened to organise an agitation if the government did not withdraw the permission.
