‘Will ask wife to apply for loan’
Following the much-awaited cut in repo rates by the RBI, I overheard a rather comical conversation between a bank officer and a customer who had approached a nationalised bank for a loan. When the customer was apprised of the details about the cut in housing loan interest rates from October 5, he was excited.
But later when he heard the officer say that the benefit for ladies was the best with the bank offering a rate of 9.3 per cent from this weekend onwards, the customer immediately asked the officer to return his loan application. Not just him, five other customers too promptly requested the officer to return their applications so that they could re-apply in the name of female members in their family.
The flabbergasted officer wondered aloud: “Who is enjoying the benefits now, the women or the men?”
Living with garbage
The city might have won praise for being among the top performers in the Swachh Bharath campaign. But a walk or drive through the main roads paints a different picture.
Mounds of garbage, with plastic, decaying faeces and, of course the overwhelming stench of urine greets citizens. A case in point is the mounds of garbage right outside the National Games Housing Village in Koramangala. Located at a busy intersection of three roads, it is not uncommon to see motorists blithely driving over the garbage.
Those who are afraid of getting dengue from the quickly breeding mosquitoes must, of course, move out of the city because there is no sign of garbage being cleared from the premises any time soon.
