The Food and Civil Supplies Department has instructed cardholders to collect five litres of kerosene from distributors this month as the State government has decided not to limit the quota.
The State government had reduced the quantity of kerosene distributed to beneficiaries from five to four litres under the Public Distribution System after the Union government reduced the quota for Karnataka. But in the wake of the Union government’s decision not to reduce the kerosene quota, the State government has decided to give the full quota of five litres to beneficiaries.
K. Rameshwarappa, senior Deputy Director, Food and Civil Supplies Department, told The Hindu that kerosene dealers would be asked to distribute the additional one litre to those who have collected only four litres this month.
The government will distribute two litres of kerosene to APL cardholders in rural areas, three litres to BPL families with one or two members, and five litres of kerosene to BPL families with more than three members.
