Umesh Khade, a deaf swimmer from the city belonging to a poor family, has finished seventh in the ‘8th Asia Pacific Deaf Swimming Championship 2015’ held in Taiwan from October 3 to 11.

Umesh, who represented India, participated in 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breast stroke events and qualified for the finals in all the events he participated in. He has represented India twice in international swimming competitions. His totally tally of medals account for 24 national medals comprising 10 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 10 bronze medals.

He is a national record-holder in 50 m, 100 m and 200 m Breast Stroke events for the past three years consecutively.

He practised under the guidance of Umesh Kalghatgi, S.R. Sindia, Sudhir Kusane, Prasad Tendolkar, Anand Patil Ajinkya Mendke, Akshay Sheregar, Prasad Tangankar, Nitish Kuduchkar and veteran swimmer Kallappa Patil.
