BCC Councillor arrested for violating Arms Act

Belagavi Market Police arrested Councillor of Belagavi City Corporation Nagesh Ganpat Mandolkar (Ward No.49) on charges of violating Section 27 of Indian Arms Act, 1959 on Tuesday.

The accused had allegedly opened fire during celebration - a wedding procession of his nephew on the night of May 1. He had fired several rounds in the air from his licensed pistol during the revelry.

The incident came to the notice of the police on Monday. After investigating, the police arrested him for violation of the Arms Act. Shocked on being arrested, he allegedly complained of chest pain following which he had been shifted to the District Government Hospital.

A case has been registered, Police Sub Inspector Ramesh Gokak said.
