Association demands elimination of wage disparity for govt. workers

October 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:58 am IST - RAICHUR:

The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association demanded that the State government increase the payscale to make it on a par with the payscale of the Union government employees.

Addressing a press conference at the Reporters’ Guild here on Sunday, Mehabub Pasha Mulimani, district secretary of the association, said that some States, including Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, had offered payscales of their public servants which were higher than the payscale of Central government employees.

“We have decided to organise conferences of State government employees at all the four divisions in the State in December. The focus of these events would be formulating future course of action for pressurising the government on our wage revision. All the options, including going for indefinite strike, are kept open,” he said.

Mr. Mulimani demanded that the government come up with an employee-friendly policy to address their housing-related issues.

He urged the government to provide land to government employees’ housing societies at affordable rates so that employees could get their own house constructed.

“Some district administration are already making such arrangements. But, it should be extended to all districts as a policy,” he said.

He said that the government had given 57 acres of lands near Dodda Aladamara on the outskirts of Bengaluru to government employees’ association.

Land handover

“The process of handing over the land is on. The association has decided to utilise the land for constructing associations’ office and educational institutions where children of government employees could pursue higher education,” he said.

N. Mallikarjun, Sheik Asarar, Akkamahadevi, Lakshmappa, Amareshwar, Bande Navaj, Syed Nazeer and other employees were present.
