The Shiradi Ghat stretch of the National Highway 75, which connects Bengaluru and Mangaluru via Hassan, will be opened for vehicles on August 1.

It may be recalled that the stretch was closed for vehicles since January 2 this year owing to the ongoing repair and strengthening work. Laying of concrete for a 13-km. stretch at a cost of Rs. 69.9 crore is said to have been completed.

Raghavan, Superintending Engineer of National Highways Authority of India, told The Hindu on Monday, “The concrete work is almost over. We are all set to open the stretch for vehicles on August 1.”

The work could be completed quickly because there was respite from rain in the region in the last couple of weeks.

The work had come to a grinding halt in April owing to incessant rain in the region.

The Shiardi Ghat stretch of the National Highway is about 26 km. As of now, the strengthening of only 13 km has been completed.

The remaining work would be taken up in the second phase, for which the tender is yet to be approved.

Therefore, the stretch might have to be closed again to vehicles during the second phase work.

Mr. Raghavan said, it would be difficult to take up the work on the second phase, without closing the stretch for vehicles.

The stretch has been closed to vehicles since January 2 for repair work

The project has been delayed owing to incessant rain in April
