The Gram Panchayat polls held in Balla in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar on Tuesday witnessed a very emotional day outside the polling station.
Shahikala, wife of Subramani, a candidate in the fray who was murdered five days back due to political rivalry, was unable to hold back her tears seeing the number of people casting their votes.
H. Srinivas, father of Subramani said he was confident that the residents of the village will support his son in his absence. “Suramani’s work as a member and Vice-President of the Balla Gram Panchayat will definitely bring him the votes”, he said confidently.
There are 870 voters in the Panchayat and more than 50 per cent of them have cast the votes by afternoon.
The election to the seat was not countermanded and polling process was held as usual. Tight security arrangements were in place to avoid any untoward incidents.
Subramani’s candidature had evoked curiosity in the district as, in the event of Subramani’s selection during the counting, a re-polling for the seat would become necessary.
Subramani was brutally killed on May 28 (Thursday). The police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder from their hideout at Mahadevapur in Bengaluru on Monday.
