The Mysuru district administration will motivate youth to get married in mass marriages, being conducted by the district administration hereafter, to ensure that their parents would not spend their hard-earned money lavishly for marriages or avail loans to perform marriages.
It will soon print pamphlets and distribute it to people, among the youth. The pamphlets would narrate the evil effects of spending lavishly on weddings and call for simple marriages. They would mention noted personalities who got married in a simple way without spending huge amounts to allure youth to follow the suit, said C. Shikha, Deputy Commissioner.
To perform the marriage of each couple, an amount of Rs. 18,000 approximately is needed, C. Shikha, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru district, said.
Many jewellery shops have come forward to sponsor mangalsutras, while a few corporate houses have offered to arrange lunch on the marriage day. To a question, she said that no one will be compelled to donate for the mass marriage. The district administration would receive even an amount of Rs. 2,000 from a person for the mass marriage in kind, she said.
