Veteran Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Pracharak M.C. Jayadev died in Bengaluru on Monday morning. He was 85.

Credited with strengthening the RSS in Bengaluru and other parts of the State, Jayadev had become its face for a long time. He had been suffering from health problems for the last few months, and was admitted to a private hospital where he breathed his last.

His body had been kept at the RSS State headquarters, Keshava Krupa, on Monday for his followers to pay their respects. The last rites would be held in his home city of Mysuru on Tuesday.

Jayadev became member of the RSS during his college days and headed its Bengaluru city unit in 1960. He headed the Karnataka and undivided Andhra Pradesh units of RSS in 2004 and also became the national executive member of the organisation in 2009.

A bachelor, he was one of the founders of Rashtrotthana Parishat, a service organisation of the Sangh Parivar.

Prominent among his followers are BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa.
