In a bid to regulate private hospitals from admitting patients for any fever on the pretext of dengue, and sensitise the doctors of private hospitals about carrying out prescribed tests for dengue confirmation and the correct treatment procedure, the Health Department will hold training on January 24 and 25 here. Over 582 dengue positive cases were reported in the district in 2016.
Some private hospitals were alleged to have admitted people for any fever and provided them treatment for dengue thereby collecting huge fee from them. Similarly, a few diagnostic centres had also collected exorbitant fee for dengue tests from the patients. The Health Department had warned such private hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centres.
This year, the Health Department wanted to sensitise the doctors about the proper way of diagnosing dengue and the correct treatment as per the WHO guidelines.
Chidambar, District Vector Borne Diseases officer told The Hindu that a panel of senior doctors will enlighten doctors about the ways of diagnosing dengue. They would also be instructed not to carry out rapid tests like card tests with locally available kits and jump to the conclusion that a person was having dengue. The Health Department was given kits by the National Institute of Virology and blood samples of patients should be sent to the Health Department for dengue confirmation, he said.
