As a welcome value addition, the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, the venue of the annual winter session of the State legislature, will soon have a laser show.

The Electrical Division of the Public Works Department recently floated an e-tender for setting up a laser show at the magnificent structure at an approximate cost of ₹43.5 lakh. Once the tenders are finalised, the project will be executed in four months, an official said.

The laser show will include a display of colourful and spectacular features with smoke or fog effect. The PWD plans to install a Pangolin LD2000 Professional & Intro Laser Designing and 3D Animation software for the show.

The ₹400-crore Suvarna Vidhana Soudha was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee in October 2012, when the then Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar headed the BJP government in the State. The government has long been mulling over utilising the structure in a more fruitful manner, including making it a tourist attraction. The proposed laser show is a move in that direction, sources said.

The government spends huge amounts on maintenance of the building every year. If it is developed into a tourist destination, the revenue generated could be utilised for its maintenance and could reduce the burden on the exchequer. There are also plans to develop a rock garden with a musical fountain, landscapes with artificial waterfalls and an open theatre, among other features, sources said.
