The people of Vijayapura can expect to have a memorable experience as renowned multilingual singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam is scheduled to perform for the first time in the city on February 8.

The event, which is going to be held at the District Stadium, is being organised by the Vijayapura Parivartana Vedike, according to Chandrashekhar Kavatagi, working president of the vedike.

In a release here, he said that it was a charitable programme where the money earned would be donated to Vidya Bharati, a private Kannada-medium school in the district.

He said that at a time when English-medium schools were gaining popularity, Vidya Bharati was imparting education in Kannada-medium only. Thus, the money collected would be donated to the school.

The release said that Balasubrahmanyam, who has sung over 40,000 songs in 20 languages, was contacted three months ago and he had agreed to give a performance here.

He said that it was a golden opportunity for the people of the district to be part of this memorable event, the release added.
