Rajya Sabha polls: Three Congress candidates, one JD (S) nominee file papers

All three candidates of the Congress – former Union ministers Oscar Fernandes and Jairam Ramesh, and former IPS officer K.C. Ramamurthy - and Janata Dal (S) candidate B.M. Farooq filed their nominations for the biennial elections to be held for four Rajya Sabha seats from Karnataka, on Monday.

State Youth Congress president Rizwan Arshad and former Kodagu ZP and District Congress Committee president Veena Achaiah also filed nomination papers for the biennial elections to the State legislative council.

Home Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwara, Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other ministers accompanied the Congress candidates during filing of nomination papers.

The JD(S), which is short of five votes, has fielded businessman Mr. Farooq. BJP’s candidate and Union Minister for State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman will file papers on Tuesday, the last day for filing nomination papers.

The elections will be held on June 11.
