A man hurled a petrol bomb at the Tomlinson Church in Tumakuru around 4 a.m. on Thursday. The 86-year-old church is located near Sira Gate.

According to the police, the attacker had covered his face with a mask. He stood near the gate, which is around 80 feet from the door, and hurled a beer bottle filled with petrol. He followed up the attack by hurling two more bottles.

The church attender, Hanok, who stays nearby, heard the sound and stepped out. He doused the fire with a water hose.

Elisha, Father of CSI Shanthi church, said: “This is an attempt to disrupt peace in the area.” He condemned the attack and demanded that the government arrest the culprit and ensure stringent punishment. Jayabhushan, secretary of the church committee, disclosed that the incident had been recorded on CCTV camera.
