Mystery continued to shroud the sudden death of a 13-year-old student of 8th Standard, Prashant, on the campus of B.K. Model School under Camp Police Station limits on Wednesday evening. Parents and members of various social organisations staged a protest on the school premises on Thursday suspecting foul-play and demanded a proper inquiry into the incident.

Prashant, who was playing with his friends after school hours (after 5 p.m.) at the play ground of an adjacent school but within common premises, reportedly collapsed on the ground. It was around 5-30 p.m. when two students rushed to the chamber of Head Master A.S. Desai and informed him about the condition of Prashant. Mr.Desai advised a teacher, who was present in the office, to check what happened to the student.

When Prashant did not respond, he was immediately shifted to the nearby Cantonment General Hospital, where the doctors declared as “brought dead.”

A hospital official told The Hindu that there were no external injuries on his body. However, the body had been referred to district government hospital for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death. The Camp police have registered a case and investigating.

Some of the protestors representing a Kannada organisation alleged that there was fight and a group of six to eight students hit Prashant hard on his genitals leading to his sudden death.

Mr. Desai said that the matter was being investigated by the police.
