Minister for Social Welfare and Chitradurga district in-charge H. Anjaneya has said that a meeting of district-level officers would be convened in a fortnight to finalise projects that should taken up for the development of Chitradurga city under the Nagarotthan scheme for which ₹ 35 crore was sanctioned recently.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday after the second round of inspection of the city to take up development works under Nagarotthan scheme, he said that top priority would be given to develop roads and drainage. Steps would be taken to depute officers to supervise the works regularly to ensure quality of works.
“The people would be urged to co-operate with the authorities concerned in implementing the development works and if they failed to extend co-operation, it would be inevitable to remove encroachments to ensure proper drainage facility,” he added.
The Minister said that there are plans to implement several development works in the New Year, including allocating funds for development of areas where there are more than 50 per cent of people from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and additional funds would be released from the Social Welfare Department. “There are plans to construct a commercial complex at a cost of ₹ 2.5 crore to provide ample space for vendors,” he added.
Since the road condition in the Housing Board layout and other residential areas is very bad, the officers concerned should take immediate steps to repair the road in these areas, he said.
MLA G.H. Thippareddy said that the authorities concerned have received 9,800 applications for houses and sites under government schemes but the officers have expressed doubts stating that more than 5,000 applications could be fake ones. Houses and sites would be allotted only after scrutiny of the applications and also the eligibility of the beneficiaries.
Chitradurga CMC president Manjunath Goppe, vice-president Malleshappa, member Manjula, commissioner Chandrappa and Hanumantappa were present.
