Members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a protest in front of the Tahsildar’s office at Mulbagal on Monday demanding a special package to drought-hit Kolar district in order to provide adequate relief to farmers.
“Since the district is continuously reeling under severe drought for a couple of years a special package should be announced in the coming State budget”, the outfit said in a memorandum submitted to the government through the Tahsildar.
Addressing the protesters, KRRS State vice-president K. Narayana Gowda urged the government to waive loans taken by farmers from commercial banks. “Waiving loans of cooperative banks will not help he farmers in any way as most of the loans were taken by relatives of directors and other management representatives of cooperative banks. Farmers did not get loans from those banks ”, Mr. Gowda said.
KRRS district unit president A. Nalini and taluk president Farooq Pasha were present.
