I'm my own successor: Yeddyurappa

Under mounting pressure to quit over alleged land scams, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday claimed that he had the support of all party MLAs and that there was no successor to him. “The only successor is B.S. Yeddyurappa.”

After attending a function of the Karnataka Housing Board to distribute sites and houses here, Mr. Yeddyurappa, in a choked voice, told journalists that he would go to Delhi to meet party members and give all details of the State politics. “I have the support of all MLAs and there is no successor to me.”

The Chief Minister said he would meet BJP national president Nitin Gadkari and other top leaders L.K. Advani, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj and convince them that he had not done anything wrong in allocation of land for industrial projects and housing.

Housing Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, who participated in the function, ruled out any change in the leadership.

Mr. Yeddyurappa rejected the land scam charges levelled by the Janata Dal (Secular) and claimed that the Opposition wanted to topple his government.

He lashed out at the former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda and his son and the former Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy. Mr. Yeddyurappa said Mr. Kumaraswamy was indulging in “revenge politics” and he would launch a campaign to expose the “misdeeds” of JD(S) leaders.

The Chief Minister alleged that Mr. Gowda had indulged in the “politics of vengeance” and made all attempts to dislodge his government.

“Mr. Gowda had not allowed the former Chief Ministers, Ramakrishna Hegde, J.H. Patel and S.R. Bommai and S.M. Krishna to rule the State peacefully. Mr. Gowda also harassed the late Byre Gowda, Y.K. Ramaiah and several other JD(S) leaders,” Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged.

“The JD(S) should not be allowed to grow at any cost. The JD(S) is not in favour of development of the State,” he said.
