Home Guards sports meet in Udupi from Saturday

The Western Range Sports Meet of Home Guards will be held at Chandu Maidan here from Saturday to Monday.

Addressing reporters here on Thursday, Prashanth Shetty, District Commandant of Home Guards, said 140 Home Guards from Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts would participate in the sports meet. Those who win here will represent Western Zone at the State-level meet.

The events to be held are 100-metre race, 800-metre relay, high jump, long jump, shot put, kabaddi, volleyball, tug of war for men, and 100-metre race and 400-metre relay for women. There will also be competitions in the provision of first aid, firefighting, drill with arms and rescue.

The meet will be inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh at 4 p.m. Saturday. N. Shivakumar, ADGP and Additional Commandant General of Home Guards, is scheduled to participate in the valedictory function and distribute the prizes at 4 p.m. on Monday.
