Gang arrested for series of robberies

The police have arrested a gang of 11 persons allegedly involved in various cases of robbery on National Highway 206 and 13 on the outskirts of the city over the past few days.

The accused are Abdul Roshan, Sadiq Khan, Asif Khan, Mohammed Khasif, Akif, Prathap R., Mohammed Shahid, Shekh Ahmed Sharu, Syed Asim Ayaz, Mohammed Salman and Khalim Khan. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare told reporters on Tuesday that the gang had chased a truck heading towards Madhya Pradesh on January 21 and had intercepted it near Javalli village. They assaulted both the driver and the cleaner and took away ₹80,000 cash from them.

On the same day, the gang also allegedly intercepted a two-wheeler rider near Javalli and robbed him of ₹8,500 and a mobile phone. Based on a tip-off, the police arrested the gang on the outskirts of the city on Monday. They also seized a bike, eight mobile phones and a few weapons from the arrested, the SP said.
