Five-fold jump in honorarium of Karnataka ZP presidents

There is some good news for zilla panchayat presidents as the State government has effected a steep hike in their monthly honorarium and also increased other perks paid to them, with immediate effect.

The notification states that zilla panchayat presidents, who were getting an honorarium of Rs. 6,000 a month, are now entitled to get Rs. 30,000. The house rent allowance has been increased from Rs. 5,000, paid in ‘A’ cities, to Rs. 20,000, Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 15,000 in ‘B’ cities and from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 15,000 in other cities.

The presidents and vice-presidents of the zilla panchayats are also entitled get an annual guest allowance of Rs. 2.09 lakh each. The president would also be provided an official telephone at her or his residence.

The notification states that the president is entitled to get an official car with a driver and use 550 litres of petrol or diesel for the official vehicle. The vice-president is also entitled to get a government vehicle with a driver. There is, however, no mention of the limit of petrol or diesel she or he can use.

The notification says that the president is entitled to get TA and DA as paid to a Minister of State and the vice-president was eligible to claim TA and DA paid to a class I officer.
