The stalemate between the Congress and the Opposition parties in Karnataka over the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy is likely to bring the ongoing legislature session to an abrupt end.
According to sources, the government is considering ending the session on Friday or Monday, instead of going through the full schedule till July 30.
This is to avoid further embarassment over the police officer’s death, with the Opposition parties declaring that they will not withdraw their day-night dharna till Minister K.J. George, who was accused by Ganapathy of harassing him, steps down.
News about the session not completing its full schedule came on Thursday after the government got five Bills passed, without any discussion, amid the dharna by the Opposition in the Assembly.
The only other important official business left is getting approval for the Appropriation Bill. Thursday saw a near-total bandh in Kodagu, Ganapathy’s home district.
