Defeat Congress in polls: Yeddyurappa

January 21, 2017 01:46 pm | Updated 01:46 pm IST - Bidar

BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa has urged Dalits and members of other deprived classes to defeat the Congress in the next elections, alleging that its leaders had campaigned against Dr. Ambedkar and defeated him in a Lok Sabha election from Maharashtra.

“This clearly shows that the Congress was anti-Ambedkar and remains so,” he said at a party meeting at Meenkera Cross in Humnabad on Friday. He was speaking after inaugurating the party regional office of Bidar South constituency.

He alleged that Congress leaders did not allow Ambedkar’s followers to cremate him in the national capital. “The Congress party has such deep hatred for Ambedkar. It does not have the moral right to take his name, let alone use him to get votes.”

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has plans to develop all places associated with Dr. Ambedkar including his birth place of Mhow cantonment in Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur and his student quarters in London into centres of historical and cultural importance. Mr. Modi is already working on these plans.

Mr. Yeddyurappa claimed that as Chief Minister in 2009, he had rehabilitated 100 villages by seeking donations from industrialists and mutt heads. “But what is happening now? The whole State, barring a few districts, is suffering from a severe drought, but the State government is indifferent. Mr. Siddaramaiah’s reign is disappointing. There is nothing happening in Karnataka except murder, rape and dacoities.”

Mr. Yeddyurappa claimed that he had laid extra focus on the development of Hyderabad Karnataka region. “I conducted three Cabinet meetings in Kalaburagi and released special funds to Bidar district.”

He congratulated BJP supported candidates who won the APMC polls. BJP district president Shailendra Beldale, who lost the Assembly polls from Bidar South constituency in 2013, MLA Prabhu Chauhan, former MLA Rajendra Verma, Subhash Kallur and Baburao Madakatti were present.
