How to address parking problems? With banks dolling out affordable loans for buying cars, their numbers are rapidly rising, congesting the cities.

Can a bigger car or an SUV be turned into a smaller one by just pressing a button?

A school boy from New Delhi has come up with an innovation called — Expandable Car: Future Car, which can be expanded and contracted.

Nabbit Mahajan, a class 9 student from Amity International School, says, “The model can be an answer to parking problems faced in cities like New Delhi. The idea is simple and can be replicated commercially.”

Mahajan demonstrated his future car at the exhibition of Children’s Science Congress here. The NCERT had selected his project for presentation at the science summit. Using hydraulic system, an eight-seater vehicle can be turned into a five-seater. The rear and the front portions of the car gets contracted to become a smaller one. In case of more passengers, the car can be expanded, he explained.
