All rules adhered to in Lokayuktaselection, says Jayachandra

January 18, 2017 12:31 am | Updated 12:31 am IST - Bidar:

The State government has followed all rules in the selection of the Lokayukta while recommending the name of P. Vishwanath Shetty for the post, Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra said here on Tuesday.

He was replying to questions about Governor Vajubhai Vala seeking clarifications on the State’s recommendations to the post.

He said that he had no idea about the clarifications. “I am yet to read newspapers or watch TV news. I can respond to it only after getting to know what information the Governor has sought,” he said.

There is a procedure established by law for the selection of the Lokayukta and “we have duly followed it. If the Governor needs more information, we are ready to send it,” he said.

He said that the government was taking steps to fill the around 100 vacancies in the 1,300 lower courts in the State.

“We have filled 197 posts of assistant public prosecutors in three years. The rest of the vacancies [125] will be filled soon,” he said.
