For tourists who want to soak in the glory of the heritage of Mysuru or get acquainted with the culinary delights of the region, this is a great time for exploration.
The Royal Mysore Walks, a company floated by eight professionals with diverse backgrounds in their 20s and early 30s, is capitalising on the Dasara flavour to conduct a guided walking tour of the city. For the festival season, ‘Durbar-dressed walk’ and ‘Dasara night walk’ are the new introductions.
Vidya Nagaraju of RMW said the durbar of the Wadiyars had a dress code, which had to be complied by those attending it. “The Ministers along with other dignitaries followed a dress code — a long black coat with white trousers along with a silk sash draped over their left shoulder. To complete the look was the famous Mysore peta. The way the peta was draped depicted a person’s social standing,” she said.
The guide leading the tourists will be attired in these robes to add a dash of classical flavour to the heritage walk, which will commence from Town Hall at 7 a.m. and will cover major locations of the city. The second walk entails exploring the food and local delicacies, besides the heritage Devaraja Market, and will be conducted at night when the entire area is lit up in different hues. The Dasara night walk will commence at 6 p.m. The night walk is slated to be held till October 21 (except on weekends) and the duration of the walk is 2-3 hours.
