Driving licences may not be too easy to get in the coming days if the Department of Transport continues with its plan to automate the process of issuing driving licence.
Inaugurating the automated driving test track at Gamanagatti here on Wednesday, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said his department was stressing on having automated driving test tracks to make the process of issuing driving license more stringent, transparent and free from human intervention.
The department had set up such tracks in eight locations and eight more would come up in different parts of the State shortly. The department has submitted a proposal to the State government to set up a few more automated driving test tracks, he said.
Corruption
Responding to the issue of large-scale corruption in the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), Mr. Reddy said the department was firm on taking action against the culprits. It was for this reason that the honest and upright officer Vinoth Priya had been retained as the NWKRTC managing director, Mr. Reddy said.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar has urged Mr. Reddy to upgrade the Hubballi-Dharwad bypass road into a six-lane road, and to realise the pending project of constructing the truck terminal here.
District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the new City Development Plan would be ready by December. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation had given its consent for the plan and the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority would shortly send it for the government’s approval.
