4,214 members expected to be elected in gram panchayat polls

All arrangements have been made to hold elections to 243 out of the 264 gram panchayats scheduled on June 2.

As many as 4,214 gram panchayat members, including 2,169 women members, are expected to be elected.Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal, who is also the District Election Officer, told presspersons here on Thursday that the filing of nomination papers will begin on Friday and the last date for it will be May 22.

The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is May 25.

Mr. Bansal said votes would be counted on June 5 and results would be announced on the same day.

As many as 159 polling booths have been declared as hyper sensitive, 318 as sensitive and the remaining 1,107 as normal polling booths. Additional security personnel would be posted at the hyper sensitive and sensitive polling stations.

The State Election Commission has appointed M.P.N. Ravindra, Commissioner of the Belagavi Urban Development Authority, and Radhakrishnarao Madankar, Additional Commissioner of the Education Department, as the observers.
