39 fall ill after eating food at religious programme

As many as 39 people have taken ill after consuming food served at a religious programme in Anjanapura village, Shikaripur taluk.

The programme was held on Saturday. Those who had consumed the food had complained of stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea on Sunday. As many as 37 persons were hospitalised at the government general hospital in Shikaripur. Two patients were admitted to McGann Government Hospital in Shivamogga.

Rajesh Suragihalli, District Health Officer, told The Hindu that the health of all the 39 patients was stable.

The samples of the food served at the programme and drinking water there have been sent to the laboratory for tests. K.A. Dayanand, Deputy Commissioner, visited the hospital in Shikaripur and took information from the staff there.
