Nayeema Sultana, president, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP), presented a ₹368 crore budget for Mysuru ZP for the year 2017-18 here on Tuesday.
Of the total budget of ₹368 crore, ₹114 crore has been earmarked for salaries for staff and ₹253.87 crore for non-salary accounts.
Compared to 2016-17, the grants for the district this year have been enhanced by over 5.19%.
A major chunk of the budget goes to primary education. It has been planned to spend an amount of ₹135 crore for primary education including the mid-day meal scheme. An amount of ₹70 lakh is earmarked for school furniture, ₹74.83 crore for health, ₹5.42 crore for veterinary services and ₹5.08 crores for sericulture promotion.
Drinking water projects
While explaining the budget proposals, Ms. Sultana said that 14 multi-village drinking water projects were completed so far, of the 31 total works, and the ZP had sought an additional ₹2.5 crore for executing drinking water schemes in 493 villages across the district.
The ZP had plans to make the district open-defecation free by March 2018 and set a target of constructing toilets for over 1,64,866 SC/ST and BPL families this year at a total cost of ₹218 crore.
Construction of toilets
The president said that the ZP had prepared an action plan to construct toilets to beneficiaries across the district. She said that Hunsur taluk will soon be declared open-defecation free.
Health facilities
An amount of ₹447 lakh was earmarked for taluk-level hospitals. Similarly, an amount of ₹1,694 lakh was reserved for medicines and other facilities to primary health centres across the district.
The ZP has kept a sum of ₹77 lakh for malaria eradication programme.
Anganawadi workers
In order to provide additional honorarium to anganawadi workers, the ZP has earmarked a sum of ₹45 lakh.
An amount of ₹668 lakhs has been set aside for managing Ashrama schools in the district. Also, ₹577 lakh is earmarked for post-metric scholarships to students.
