Labour Minister and district in charge Venkataramanappa has informed that an action plan of ₹25 crore for taking up development works in villages affected by mining has been approved by the State government. Officials should start work in these areas by January-end, he said.

Speaking at a meeting of district-level officers here on Wednesday, he said that as per the Supreme Court orders, development work worth ₹25 crore would be taken up in 63 villages affected by mining activities in the district. Officials who make unnecessary delay in taking up these works would face action, he said. The district administration should initiate immediate steps to conduct health check-up camps and make arrangements for providing quick treatment to patients during an emergency situation. The funds for the same should release immediately, he said.

Every health centre in the affected area should have a hi-tech ambulance, driver and necessary medical facilities for emergency. The staff in these units should be paid their salaries regularly and should be ready for emergency situations, he said.

Since Chitradurga is drought-affected, the officers should develop a good garden with all varieties of plants and children’s play area. An action plan should be prepared for the play area equipment and work should start immediately.

Steps should also be taken to set up drinking water purification units in mining-affected villages in the district. In the first phase, 26 drinking water purification units have been sanctioned for these areas and the work on the same should be completed as early as possible, he said.
